Bar Code:

The printed code used for recognition by a bar code scanner (reader).

One-Dimensional Barcode: This 1-D bar code is widely used as the Universal Product Code (UPC) on millions of consumer items.

UPC:

Universal Product Code, is another description for a bar code; however, a UPC is a registered barcode and guaranteed to be unique.

Bar Code Scanner:

A device specialized for reading bar codes and converting them into either the ASCII or EBCDIC digital character code. The most common of that type today is the visible laser diode (VLD) scanner, which emits as many as 50 laser beams simultaneously to capture the image at any angle.

Data Collector:

A hand held programmable computer device that reads bar codes. This device is usually used during inventory counts.
